Jothashilpa Studio Limited is a vibrant center for traditional and contemporary arts, created with the purpose of supporting, reviving, developing, and valuing Bangladesh’s rich heritage of art and crafts. With a deep respect for cultural roots and a forward-looking creative vision, Jothashilpa works to strengthen the traditional art and crafts sector by giving it renewed visibility, fresh opportunities, and a meaningful place in today’s creative economy.
Since 2016, Jothashilpa has grown into a true melting pot—where fine art, folk art, native art, and diverse crafts come together side by side to shape a new artistic language. Instead of treating tradition and modern practice as separate worlds, Jothashilpa creates a space where they can meet, influence each other, and evolve. This approach has made the studio a unique platform for experimentation, collaboration, and cultural storytelling that feels both authentic and contemporary.
From the beginning, Jothashilpa has worked closely with thousands of artisans and traditional folk artists from rural and urban communities across Bangladesh. Its network includes skilled women artisans specializing in hand embroidery, master Jamdani weavers, cinema banner painters, and iconic rickshaw artists—creative talents that represent living traditions passed down through generations. Jothashilpa also serves as a point of exchange between traditional creators and contemporary academic artists, enabling learning, dialogue, and co-creation across backgrounds and styles.
As a traditional and contemporary art centre, Jothashilpa aims to build bridges—between rural and urban artists, between folk heritage and academic practice, and between traditions and modern technologies. Through this mission, the studio continues to protect cultural identity while inspiring new forms of expression that can travel beyond borders and connect with the world.
